Released after getting 6 months for yawning in court
CHICAGO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man has walked free nearly a month after a judge jailed him for yawning.
"The time did not fit with the punishment at all. How are you going to give a man 120 days or whatever it was for yawning in a court? That's just a natural human reaction," said father Clifton Williams, Senior.
The trouble started during sentencing in a Chicago drug case.
Clifton Williams, Junior was there supporting his cousin when he let out a yawn.
The judge said the sound he made was obnoxious and offensive and he held Williams in contempt of court, slapping him with a six month jail sentence.
He only served three-and-a-half weeks of it before the judge decided to let him go.
