Republican National Committee's insurance plan covers elective abortions
Comments 0 | Recommend 0(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - As many republicans fight abortion coverage in health care overhaul legislation, new information reveals a contradiction.
Apparently the Republican National Committee's insurance plan covers elective abortions for its employees.
It's something Chairman Michale Steele says he just learned about Thursday as he made a sweep through West Michigan.
The plan has been in place since 1991.
Steele immediately called his staff and told them to let their insurance carrier know they wanted to opt out of abortion coverage immediately.
He issued a statement saying donors should not be paying for that kind of service and the policy would not exist under his administration.
The traditional GOP platform is strongly against abortion and nearly every republican in Congress voted in favor of an amendment restricting abortion coverage in the health care bill that cleared the House.
