BlackBerry service out in N. America; AT&T says all carriers

NEW YORK (AP) - A major service outage is afflicting users of BlackBerry smart phones across the United States and Canada.

Officials with AT&T and Verizon Wireless say BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion told them customers of all wireless carriers are affected.

There's no word on what caused the outage or when service would be restored.

RIM officials did not return phone calls.
