Woman admits stealing nearly $950,000 from bank
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A one-time bank employee in the Grand Rapids area has pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly $950,000.
Amanda Renee Burns worked at a Fifth Third Bank branch in Rockford. She pleaded guilty Friday in federal court.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Heath Lynch says Burns told a judge that she took as much as $10,000 at a time for her personal use.
Authorities say Burns began stealing from the vault in 2004 and covered her tracks by falsifying bank records and manipulating audits. A message seeking comment was left with her lawyer.
