Updated: Missing Battle Creek man Found in Port Hope

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A statewide search for a missing Battle Creek man with Alzheimer's is over.

Bennie Donegan has been located, safe and sound. The 71-year-old man had been missing since around 4:00 Thursday morning. He was found nearly four hours away from home.

Police in Battle Creek say that in cases like Donegan's it is critical for the public to be their eyes and ears, and that is exactly what happened in Donegan's case.

Thursday was a day of worry for Bennie Donegan's family, his wife of 53 years say that Thursday was a day she's feared for a long time. When she woke up Thursday morning, her husband was gone from their Springview Tower apartment in Battle Creek.

Bennie had taken her car keys, but no money, medicine, or food.

Around 3:00 Thursday afternoon, Lorraine Donegan got a phone call from a good samaritan in Port Hope, Michigan, near the thumb in Michigan. That man had seen Bennie Donegan sitting in his mini-van.

Lorraine is now headed to the Detroit area to meet up with her son, with the help of State Police they are making arrangements to reunite with Ben.

Lorraine already had a security bar on her door at home and bells on the door handle. On Thursday she says she put in an alarm on the door that will wake all her neighbors if it goes off.

Police in Battle Creek had been spreading to word all day to police agencies around the state, and more importantly, to the public.
