Police in Battle Creek see spike in break-ins

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Police in Battle Creek say they're seeing a spike of break-ins across the city.

Police say they've seen more than 20 in just the last few weeks. Most are happening on the city's south side, but the north side is also being targeted.

Thieves are forcing their way into homes and taking electronics like TVs and computers.

Lt. Todd Madsen of the Battle Creek Police Department says many of the break-ins are happening during the day, but he doesn't think they are connected. He believes the poor economy is causing people to become desperate.

Anyone seeing suspicious activity is urged to call 911.
