Car found downstream

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Crews have found the car that was washed away when a huge chunk of road collapsed.

 

Floodwaters washed out a stretch of County Road 378 near Covert on Monday, leaving behind a massive 50-foot crater.

 

When that road collapsed it also took out phone lines, knocking out service to about 900 customers, including two power plants.

 

One man nearly died when his car fell into the crater. He survived, but his car wasn't found until a day later, 300 feet downstream.

 

It will likely be weeks before County Road 378 is usable again.
