Condo fire in Kent County

NEAR KENTWOOD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We're learning more about a condo fire that forced people out of their homes in Kent County.

"I was just sitting in my condo and we saw a fire truck drive by. We went out and noticed that the garage was on fire and it spread to the roof and the second house," said resident Tamara Yantovsky.

Fire investigators believe a vehicle caught fire in a carport and then it spread throughout the building.

This happened around 8:30 Tuesday night at the Forest Hills Condos on Acropolis Drive near Kentwood. The fire destroyed two condos. They say a firewall stopped it from going any further.

One other home also suffered smoke damage. Everyone made it out safely.

The Red Cross is helping those affected.
