Casinos considering online betting
LAS VEGAS (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Casinos are feeling the financial pinch since people have less cash to throw into slot machines.
Some Las Vegas casinos are considering going online.
Experts say casinos first saw online gambling as a threat because it would deter people from making the trip to the casino and spending more money.
With fewer people making the trip anyway, casinos like MGM and Harrah's see the Internet as a possible revenue source.
"Having legal online gaming would really help the strip casinos with their marketing. It would help them find out who is gambling out there," said David Schwartz of the U.N.L.V. Center for Gaming Research.
For this online expansion to happen Internet gaming laws would have to be changed.
Some casinos feel the new Obama administration could take steps towards making that happen, but there is no time-line right now.
