Second fire at apartment complex in 6 months

KENTWOOD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It might have seemed like deja-vu for folks living in one Kent County condo complex.

Fire broke out at the Forest Hills complex near Kentwood Sunday morning. This was the second fire there in just the last six months.

The fire started in the attic area. Two units suffered heavy damage from flames and smoke. A third had water damage.

No one was hurt.

We spoke with a woman who lives in one of those damaged condos. After crews put out the fire she went in a few hours later to salvage what she could, but says the loss is pretty tough to take.

"It was hard, it was hard, it was very hard," said Maria Rodriguez. "I was pretty upset, I cried and I cried until I found some people down there and they hugged me."

That woman told us she didn't have renters insurance.

Back in December a fire destroyed two condos at the Forest Hills complex. That time a car caught fire in a carport then spread to the building.

A firewall stopped it from going any further.
