Confirmed cases of bacterial infection

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - One West Michigan county is seeing confirmed cases of a bacteria related to e-coli and salmonella.

 

It's called shigella (shih-geh-luh). The bacteria is spread through fecal matter, even very small amounts.

 

It's especially prevalent where infants and toddlers are involved.

 

Muskegon County health officials confirmed at least 13 cases in the last two months.

 

Symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever.

 

The key is too wash your hands thoroughly, especially after using the bathroom or dealing with dirty diapers.
