Kent County Commissioner Faces Charges

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Kent County commissioner is under some scrutiny.

Dean Agee faces two misdemeanor counts of careless discharge of a firearm. His attorney, Jason Elmore, says he could face up to a year in jail and/or a $500 fine on each of the charges filed.

Elmore says the counts stem from a gathering held at Agee's farm near Evart. Several people got the chance to fire off a World War II machine gun. However, Elmore tells Newschannel 3 one of those shots hit a vehicle about two miles away at the Dulcimer Fun Fest.

He claims Osceola County Sheriff's Department inspected and approved the safety precautions taken. And everyone was under the supervision of the gun's federal firearms licensed owner.

Agee and the weapons owner turned themselves in to the Osceola County authorities and their arraignment is scheduled for next week.
