Truck hit tree, caught fire
KALAMAZOO COUNTY (Newschannel 3) - The driver of a pickup truck died in a single-car crash last night just before 11:00 pm. The crash happened on East W Avenue near 33rd St. near Vicksburg.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office says the vehicle, a 1986 Chevy pickup, was travelling East on W Avenue and, for an unknown reason, crossed the center line. The truck then left the roadway on the north shoulder and struck a tree, pinning the driver. The impact also caused the truck to catch fire.
Deputies say people passing by stopped and tried to put the fire out with extinguishers, but the flames were too large. The driver died at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office is not yet releasing the victim's name pending notification of the family.
The accident is still under investigation.
