Credit card fraud scheme
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan State Police are warning businesses to watch out for a credit card fraud scheme sweeping the city.
The culprits are scrambling stores satellite signals using tin foil, then using stolen credit cards purchasing items and taking off.
While they are buying things with the stolen credit card the store's system is offline, but the business does not know until the suspects are far away.
The credit card systems remain down until the foil is removed.
Troopers say businesses with satellites on low roof tops are especially vulnerable to this scheme.
They are warning business owners to be very cautious with all credit card sales right now and to keep an eye out for tin foil on the credit card satellites. They say if the system goes down, check the satellite, if there is tin foil on it call 911.
Police ask anyone with any information to call (269)968-6115.
