I-94 bridge work in Battle Creek runs into 2010
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Transportation says work to rebuild two Interstate 94 bridges in Battle Creek that was delayed earlier this year won't be completed until next spring.
MDOT says several weeks of bad weather prevented the contractor from getting back on track for completion this year.
Officials closed about five miles of I-94 in May after soil shifted under the foundations of the bridges over Riverside Drive that had been undergoing reconstruction. The interstate reopened later that month.
MDOT says Riverside Drive will be open to traffic during the Thanksgiving weekend to accommodate holiday shoppers. It will close again to traffic starting Nov. 30 until work stops for the winter.
