OTTAWA/ALLEGAN COUNTIES, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Storm damage estimates continue to climb in Ottawa County.
The county says it has received about 100 new reports in the last few days, pushing the damage total for private property from just over $2 million to more than $23 million.
County officials are seeking federal aid to help pay for the public damage from last Friday's storm, but homeowners will likely have to recover on their own or with help from low-interest loans.
Officials in Allegan County are now calling on Governor Granholm as well to request federal aid for storm damage there.
They'll send a letter to her office Friday, asking her to declare a state of emergency in hopes of getting disaster funds.
