Kalamazoo mother and daughter killed in Virginia accident

NEAR WASHINGTON D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A mother and daughter from Kalamazoo are dead after a car crash near Washington, D.C.

 

Police say it happened Friday afternoon around 3 p.m.

 

Gail Sikkema was driving with her daughter, Sydney Hagen, and granddaughter.

 

Police tell Newschannel 3, for some unknown reason Gail lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. The car caught fire and Gail died on the scene.

 

Sydney was taken to the hospital where she died. The 14-year-old granddaughter, survived the accident but was badly burned.

 

A family friend tells us they were on vacation at the time of the accident.
