Decatur Man Dead after Hitting Tree

DECATUR (Newschannel 3) - A Decatur man is dead after hitting a tree head on.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Deparmtent says it happened around 9p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 40th Street and 82nd Avenue. Daniel Haralson, 86, of Decatur and his grandson David Ohns, 16, of Decatur where traveling southbound on 40th Street. Haralson tried to make a right hand turn but was unable to and struck a tree head on.

When police arrived on the scene they found Haralson unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital where he died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash.

Ohns was also taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Neither were wearing their seat belts and police don't believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department or Silent Observer.
