Touchdown for Diabetes
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of premature death in America.
In Kalamazoo, an estimated 22,000 people have diabetes and many of them are unable to get the treatment they desperately need.
That's where the organizers of Touchdown for Diabetes hope to step in. The annual event raises money for private diabetes care for the uninsured in the greater Kalamazoo area.
In 2009 the event raised more than $100,000 and organizers hope for an even better turnout in 2010.
“We see patients everyday that really need more care,” said Cheryl Tennenbaum, Borgess Medical Center, “but can't get the care because they don't have the money to take care of their diabetes.”
Touchdown for Diabetes takes place Thursday, September 9th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, only 500 tickets are available.
Those interested can contact Linda or Joe at 269-323-3200. You can find more information at the event's website www.touchdowndiabetes.com.
