Eric Gemmell

Eric Gemmell W.  joined the News Channel 3 team in April 2009 as a General Assignment Reporter.


 
Gemmell recently came to News Channel 3 after three years of reporting and anchor experience at KXXV, an ABC affiliate in Waco, Texas. Gemmell's reporting in Texas gained him national exposure while covering severe weather, politics, as well as in-depth investigative reporting.


 
Prior to the Lone Star State, Gemmell had nearly two years of producing, reporting and anchoring experience at KIEM, a NBC affilitate in Eureka, California. Gemmell was the first television reporter permitted access into Peligan Bay Prison in Crescent City, California to report on the state's recent removal of tobacco from its prison systems.


 
Gemmell's first experience in television began at the network level working with the investigative unit of the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw in Washington, DC as well as working closely with NBC's owned and operated station, NBC 4 on a host of stories effecting the Washington region.


 
From 1998 through 2000, Gemmell served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Central American country of Honduras where his service was interrupted by Hurricane Mitch. After being evacuated to Panama, Gemmell returned to his host country roughly a month later where he worked lived and worked in Gualaco, Olancho. There he taught at the local high and elementary schools, constructed and developed gravity fed water systems, developed a national youth leadership initiative as well as implementing public health campaigns on the eradication of water borne illnesses.


 
Gemmell's professional experience has led him across a myriad of experiences including public relations, corporate communications, lobbying and public health.


 
A native of Pennsylvania, Gemmell is an avid enthusiast and collector of art and illustrations stemming from the teaching of Howard Pyle and the Brandywine School. 


 
In addition, Gemmell is an American Colonial history buff, enjoys scouting antique shops, reading and traveling.


 
Gemmell is currently undertaking a work of non-fiction writing on his experiences while living overseas.  


 
Gemmell is an Eagle Scout and fluent in Spanish. 


 
He received his undergraduate degree from Eastern University in Saint Davids, Pennsylvania in History and Political Science and received his Masters Degree in Journalism from American University in Washington, DC.
