Police chase ends in fatal crash
Comments 0(NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Michigan State Troopers are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred in the Village of Constantine on S. Washington Street.
Troopers say that Robert Porter, a 37-year-old male from Sturgis, was under investigation by the Three Rivers Police Department for retail fraud when the Constantine Police Department located him traveling into Constantine on Featherstone Road. Police say they attempted to stop Porter, who fled.
Police say Porter continued fleeing through Constantine, when his pursuit was intercepted by a Michigan State Police Trooper.
Porter traveled south bound on Washington Street at a high rate of speed, swerving in and out of traffic as well as passing in a no passing zone.
Troopers say that when Porter attempted to negotiate the curve at the south end of the village, he lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Porter's vehicle was struck in the driver's side door, causing multiple internal injuries. Porter was declared deceased at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Porter was not injured in the crash.
