Florida man survives 13,000 foot plummet

FLORIDA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Florida man fights to survive after a sky-diving accident.

Witnesses say the man's parachute got caught on the tail of the airplane when he jumped out. It damaged his chute and the controls of the plane.

The rest of the skydivers on board quickly jumped out.

The man managed to get his chute free but fell almost 13,000 feet very fast because of his damaged parachute.

Investigators say an avocado grove broke his fall and likely saved his life.

A chopper air-lifted the man to the hospital where he is in stable condition.

The damaged plane landed safely.
