Grand Valley State student pleads guilty to felony
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (AP) - A Grand Valley State University student shot and wounded during a police raid has pleaded guilty to a felony count of delivery or manufacturing marijuana.
Twenty-year-old Derek Copp appeared before Ottawa County Circuit Judge Edward Post on Thursday and admitted selling marijuana to an undercover officer.
Copp faces up to four years in prison when he's sentenced on Aug. 10.
George Krupp, Copp's defense attorney, declined comment Friday when contacted by The Grand Rapids Press.
Deputy Ryan Huizenga has been charged with careless discharge of a firearm causing injury during the March 11 raid, in which the unarmed student was shot in the chest.
Police say they found a small amount of drugs in Copp's apartment in Allendale, about 15 miles west of Grand Rapids.
