Updated: 30 sickened after swimming at Grand Rapids park

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Health officials in Kent County are taking a close look at the water after about 30 people became ill after swimming at Millennium Park.

Brian Hartl, an Epidemiologist for Kent County, says that tests are ongoing, with results expected on Thursday.

Those sickened after swimming at the park experienced symptoms ranging from nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Tests performed on Monday showed acceptable levels of water contaminants.

Kent County issued a statement Tuesday saying that all water samples have tested well below the standard for total body contact and that whatever sickened people over the weekend appears to be an isolated incident.

They say that the swimming beach and splash pad at Millennium Park are safe for people to enjoy.
