Ski Safety

The ski season is upon us, but this winter doctors are urging you to wear a helmet if you plan to hit the slopes.

The growing popularity of extreme winter sports (performing acrobatic maneuvers on the slopes) is what scientists believe has led to an increase in traumatic brain injuries. More than 17,000 occur each year. But, a helmet reduces the risk by up to 60%.

Nearly 40 skiers and snowboarders die every year in accidents. Safety experts say most accidents happen when skiers and snowboarders go above their abilities or try to take their game up a notch. If you want to do that, not only should you wear a helmet... you should also get a lesson first!
