Health Officials Warning: Man may have Spread HIV Virus
Comments 0 | Recommend 0MONTCALM CO., Mich (Newschannel 3) - One health department is now urging all women who've had sexual relations with two specific men to get tested immediately.
The two men are Ryan Hanford and Gerald Campbell. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department is offering testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases to those who have had unprotected sex with the two men.
Both Hanford and Campbell were recently arrested in Montcalm County for sex crimes. Gerald Campbell, of Crystal is being charged with having sexual relationships without telling his partners he's HIV positive.
At least two local women have come forward and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Campbell without knowing he had HIV.
"This case solidifies why it is so important for people to use protection regardless of what their partners tell them," said Robert Graham, D.O. and Medical Director for MMDHD. "Just because someone says they are free of disease doesn't make it so."
Also Ryan Hanford, a sex offender from Lansing, is being accused of soliciting and having sexual relationships with underage girls he met online.
Law enforcement officers believe he's had sexual relations with students from Carson City. But they are also worried that he may have had contact with girls from Belding, Battle Creek, Ithaca and Monroe.
"Early detection is key to treatment and prevention of complications from sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV and AIDS," said Graham.
Again, call the MMDHD is urging anyone who may have had unprotected sex with either man to be tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases by calling 989-831-3615 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. to schedule an appointment for a free, anonymous and confidential consultation.
Contacts of Campbell or Hanford are also encouraged to contact the Carson City Police Department at 989-584-6448.
