HOLLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - There is some big news for some Holland businesses.

The city council voted to knock out an ordinance banning Sunday beer and wine sales Wednesday night. The ordinance has been on the books since 1969.

The new rule takes effect immediately.

Bar and restaurant owners pushed for the change and expect it to give a big boost to their bottom lines.

Ottawa County recently voted to allow beer and wine sales on Sunday. The City of Holland has now followed the county's lead.

Stores will have to get a Sunday liquor license from the state, which could take up to four weeks.
