Pop cans as home heating

COLORADO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Home heating costs are expensive right now, but one Colorado family figured out a way to cut down on their bill by using pop cans.

They're not just returning them to the store for cash. They've installed a special solar panel filled with recycled pop cans.

The cans collect heat from the sun and then heat up the air moving through the system and into the home.

The family says this system required a $4,000 investment. They think it will save them a lot of money in the long run.

"I have no idea what's gonna happen with natural gas prices in the future. But I'm pretty sure that the sun's gonna keep shining," said homeowner Andrew Ehrnstein.

A Canadian company created the pop can solar panels and say they work best in a sunny environment.
