House fire sends 2 to hospital

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A house fire in Van Buren County has left one person dead and sent three others to the hospital.

 

The fire started just before 1:00 Tuesday morning at a home on 14th Avenue near Breedsville. Four people were home when one person noticed smoke in the home.

 

The woman who smelled the smoke was able to get herself and two others out of the residence before being overwhelmed by the smoke.

 

One of the residents ran to a neighbor's to get help while another tried to go back into the home to save the fourth person. They ended up passing out after breathing too much smoke.

 

Firefighters arrived at the scene and were able to save the person who had gone back inside.

 

In all it took five fire departments to put the fire out.

 

When firefighters were searching the burned residence they found the body of a fourth person inside.

 

The three survivors were taken to the hospital for treatment.
