Environmental issues take center stage in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Environmental issues take center stage Monday in Kalamazoo.

Activists and lawmakers will talk about concerns in West Michigan and what can be done to change them.

One hot topic is the Kalamazoo River clean-up. The EPA is in the process of dredging the river for PCB's and other industrial pollutants.

The Kalamazoo Environmental Council also says "green" issues will be a big part of Monday's discussion. The Environmental Council also expects to touch on confined animal feeding operations and great lakes preservation.

The group hopes the discussion will help connect local lawmakers and community members so they can figure out what issues need to be addressed both in Lansing and in Washington D.C.
