Fatal crash in Kalamazoo Co.
Comments 0 | Recommend 0KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident that took place Tuesday morning around 8:04 am.
Officers say that 20-year-old Benjamin Burkett of Mendon was driving a Toyota pickup truck northbound on 31st Street when he failed to stop for a stop sign at YZ Avenue.
Burkett's vehicle was struck by a Ford F-250 pickup that was traveling westbound on YZ Avenue, driven by 45-year-old John Silsby. Silsby and his two passengers were all transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Burkett died from injuries received during the crash.
Officers say that neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash. Silsby and his passengers were wearing seat belts, but it has not yet been determined if Burkett was wearing his.
The crash remains under investigation.
