Two H1N1 deaths in Kalamazoo Co.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Newschannel 3 has learned that two deaths in Kalamazoo County were H1N1 related.

The Kalamazoo County Department of Health and Community Services says a woman in her late 20's died at her home on October 20th. Tests just came back showing that she did have H1N1, but also had underlying medical conditions.

On Thursday we told you about ten-year-old Kamren Blakely, who died on Wednesday. It has been confirmed that he had H1N1 as well, and died from complications from the flu.

While we are hearing quite a bit about deaths associated with H1N1, health officials say the case to fatality ratio is the same as with the seasonal flu. However, experts say that those who are in one of the high-risk categories really should use diligence in getting vaccinated.
