Body discovered in trunk in Kalamazoo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A car sat parked in a Kalamazoo neighborhood for several days before arousing the suspicions of neighbors. When police came to check the car out, they found a body in the trunk.
The discovery was made Thursday afternoon at 842 Gibson Street, near Kings Highway.
The car was pulled into the driveway of a vacant home and sat there for a number of days. Now police are trying to zero in on just when it was left there with a body inside.
Jeff Munger last saw his neighbor, 51-year-old Troy Maurice Scott, on Halloween. Munger had gone to Scott's Galesburg home a few times since then, but got no answer.
Now, detectives say Scott was killed sometime in the past week, and his body left in the trunk of a car on Gibson Street in Kalamazoo.
It was a neighbor who went to check out the car Thursday afternoon and ended up calling police.
“Walked up to it, discovered damage to the vehicle that looked suspicious, they called us,” said Lt. Victor Ledbetter of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
Detectives say that Scott did not own the vehicle his body was found in. Scott had not been reported missing, and the house on Gibson Street might have no other connection to the crime other than that is where the car was left.
Investigators are now calling on the public to help them figure out when Troy Scott was last seen alive.
