Kalamazoo man headed to trial in double shooting

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Kalamazoo man who is charged in a double murder is headed to trial.

Investigators say Tommy Emory shot Lawanda Rogers and Sheron Wright outside his home.

Another person who saw it all happen says things escalated in a matter of seconds.

He says Emory came out to tell Rogers and Wright to quiet down and when they tried to talk to him he pulled a gun.

“He shot, pow, pow, pow. He shot Sheron. Sheron fell to the ground, like he's trying to run, he shoots again, pow, pow," said the witness. "She jumps in car, alright, alright.  I put my head down, alright we're leaving she was saying. He unjammed the gun and just, pow, pow. He still shot her for no reason."

Emory's family claims the shooting was self defense, but a judge found enough evidence to go ahead with the murder trial.
