Still no answers for 2 found dead in Kent County
Comments 0 | Recommend 0KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - In Grattan Township, people are stunned after the deaths of two people, and it may be weeks before their questions are answered.
The names of the two people found dead on Tuesday are now known, but how they died remains a mystery and police say it may be weeks before they know the cause of death.
Police found the bodies Tuesday afternoon at a home on Murray View Drive in Grattan Township, in the eastern part of Kent County near Lowell. Police were called to the home by one of the victim's children.
Autopsies on both victims proved inconclusive on Wednesday, which is especially difficult for the girl who found both bodies and discovered that she had lost her mother just a day before her birthday.
Nicole Busch declined to comment on discovering her mother dead inside a house in Grattan Township, and nobody is yet sure what really happened, though it's believed that the two weren't murdered by a third person.
Nicole Busch declined comment, saying that she is trying to make it through. On her Facebook page, Nicole commented hours after the discovery.
"It was a beautiful day today," Nicole wrote, "I had so many things to be happy about. Now all the sudden my world is turned completely upside down. I should have trusted the weird feeling when I had it last night."
Nicole's mother Sally and another man, Craig VandenBerge were found dead inside the house on Murray View Drive. Neighbors told Newschannel 3 that the two spent a lot of time together. Investigators say the bodies had been in the home for several days.
Many in the Murray Lake neighborhood have acknowledged that Vanderberge, who owned the house, had significant health problems, but the presence of two bodies raised suspicions.
"Maybe if one had passed away you might say, okay that might happen, but both of them passing away together seemed a little suspicious," said neighbor Terry Rosbury.
Neighbors also offered up sympathy for Nicole and the tragedy of her discovering the bodies.
"She's a young girl," said neighbor Laura Scott, "just to have tragedy to the family is just so sad, and we're such a close community here."
Wednesday, on her birthday, Nicole said her mother was a well-educated woman who liked to help other people.
Nicole wrote on her Facebook page, "RIP Mom. I love you and will always remember you for the amazing person you were! I love you so so so much and I'm so sorry I wasn't there when you needed me!"
Deputies say there were no signs of trauma on the bodies, and in three weeks toxicology results will be back to determine the cause of death.
