KVET seizes meth lab, two children placed in temporary custody
PAVILION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team announced that it had seized another meth lab Thursday.
KVET officers executed a search warrant in the 6500 block of Piccadilly in Pavilion Township Thursday afternoon. The investigation was initiated in response to several citizen complaints that methamphetamine was being manufactured in the residence.
KVET says the suspect had just arrived home as the team approached, he was contacted outside of his vehicle and found to be in possession of methamphetamine. All the components to manufacture meth were discovvered in a duffel bag inside the vehicle. An active one-pot meth lab was also found inside the residence.
The suspect, a 23-year-old male, will be facing charges of operating and maintaining a meth lab and possession to deliver methamphetamine, pending the results of lab analysis.
Two children, ages 9 and 10, also live in the residence. Children's Protective Services responded to the scene and placed them into the temporary care of a relative.
A private contractor was called to the scene to remove the hazardous waste. The Kalamazoo County Health Department was also notified and will conduct further testing at the property.
