Wyoming police investigating rape stemming from Craigslist ad
WYOMING (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police in the state of Wyoming are investigating a rape that stems from a revenge ad on Craigslist.
Detectives say a woman's ex-boyfriend posted an online ad posing as that woman saying that she wanted someone to come to her house and rape her as part of a fantasy.
Some men responded to the ad and the ex-boyfriend sent them pictures of the woman and gave her address.
Then one man followed through with the attack.
He's now charged with rape, but claims he was only doing what he was told.
The ex-boyfriend is charged with being an accomplice.
Prosecutors say the victim didn't know about the online ad.
"The same scumbags that are out here in the real world that are committing crimes are going to find their way to the Internet. Once and a while Googleing yourself will give you a good feeling for your Internet presence, your Internet life. And if you do come across something that's fraudulent you can quickly report it," said computer security expert Charles Tendell.
Investigators say this is a new type of case that they've never seen before.
