Juror dismissed in Springer trial
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Jurors will return to the Kalamazoo County courthouse Tuesday to try and reach a verdict in a high-profile murder trial.
But, one of the jurors will now be different. The deliberations were delayed for a short time Tuesday morning after one of the jurors was dismissed because of an emergency. The details of the emergency were not revealed. An alternate juror will take their place.
Anthony and Marsha Springer are charged with murder, torture and child abuse for their daughter Calista's death.
She died two years ago in a house fire and firefighters found her body chained to the bed.
The Springer's attorney says they restrained their daughter because Calista might have run away or hurt herself and others.
Prosecutors say those chains that held Calista to her bed caused her death.
After deliberating for an hour Tuesday the jury asked to see a number of exhibits from the trial. They requested to see the door alarm, zip ties, the dog chain, letters written by Calista and home videos. They also asked to see the testimony from seven of the witnesses.
The court will collect the items for the jury to view again.
The jury continues to deliberate.
