New computer virus infection
Comments 0KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new type of virus could be infecting your computer.
The new virus has already breached over 75,000 computers in over 2,500 organizations around the world. This includes user accounts of popular social networking sites.
The workroom at Route 66 Technologies on Gull Road is filled with computers that have been taken over by malware and viruses. It is a trend that is becoming very common.
The virus is called "Kneber Botnot" and it's the latest malware to sweep more than 75,000 computers across the world.
"They get a pop up in the lower right corner that says their computer is infected. The main thing is to not click on that and not give credit card information," said Owner of Route 66 Technologies Tony Block.
Block says that two to three computers a day are coming in with the infections.
Block says people need to watch what sites they visit and attachments they open and if you think your computer is infected take it to be checked out.
"You really have to take it somewhere and they have to scan it without Windows actually running because once you reboot it re-propagates itself and you're re-infected," said Block.
While the latest malware often goes undetected by many anti-virus programs, Block is developing a program that you can install on your computer to keep the bugs from ever getting in.
"We're trying to develop a product now where it will basically be impossible to get infected because once you reboot your computer it will return to its original state where you froze it."
They hope to have that program in their store with in the next month.
Workers say that the only way they know how to completely get rid of all viruses is to prosecute those who create them.
