People's Food Co-op moving
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A natural foods grocery store is looking for a new home in Kalamazoo.
Right now the People's Food Co-op is located on South Burdick Street. After years of growth it's looking to build a new place on Harrison Street.
Last year the store had about a million dollars in sales with 760 individuals and households owning a share of the business.
If all goes well they plan to break ground on the new facility in May with hopes of being up and running by the end of the year.
"We want to move because we're so tight in this space at this point that it's hard for us to continue serving the needs of the community and build on what we're doing, and building on this space is nearly impossible," said General Manager Chris Dilley.
The store still needs to raise about $450,000 through loans and the owners of the co-op for the new building.
