Settlement reached in Mecosta County water case
Comments 0 | Recommend 0STANWOOD, Mich. (AP) - A settlement has been announced between the producer of Ice Mountain bottled water and an environmental group that fought for years to prevent or reduce the company's withdrawal of groundwater in Michigan's Mecosta County.
Nestle Waters North America Inc. and Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation say the agreement ends the long legal case involving the company's water-bottling plant in Stanwood, about 45 miles north of Grand Rapids.
The deal announced Tuesday allows Nestle to pump an average of 218 gallons per minute, with restrictions on spring and summer withdrawals.
Group President Terry Swier says it should prevent environmental damage to nearby waterways.
Nestle spokeswoman Deb Muchmore says the company is pleased with the agreement.
