2 Republicans join race for Mich. US House seat
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg has picked up two GOP primary challengers in his bid to regain the 7th District congressional seat.
Brian Rooney of Dexter, an attorney at the Thomas More Law Center in Ann Arbor, officially announced his candidacy Thursday.
His brother, Florida Republican Tom Rooney, already is a congressman. They're grandsons of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney.
The Daily Telegram of Adrian, Mich., reported this week that retired business owner and real estate investor Marvin Carlson of Manchester also has gotten into the GOP race.
The winner of the August 2010 GOP primary will take on Democratic Rep. Mark Schauer of Battle Creek.
Schauer last year unseated Walberg, of Tipton.
The Daily Telegram reports that independent candidate Scott Aughney of Jackson also is in the race.
