Man gets 35-90 years in Mich. woman's strangling

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A western Michigan man convicted of second-degree murder and other charges in the strangulation of a pregnant woman has been sentenced to 35 to 90 years in prison.

Edwin Lario-Munoz appeared Thursday in Kent County Circuit Court.

A jury in October found the Honduran native guilty in the fatal October 2005 attack on Silvia Sanchez-Parada at the home she and her husband shared with Lario-Munoz in Grand Rapids. Her unborn child didn't survive.

Lario-Munoz was convicted in the attack earlier, but a new trial was ordered because of hearsay allowed at his first trial.

Defense attorney Charles Clapp argued at trial that the victim's husband could have killed her.
