Michigan Representatives on the bailout
Comments 0 | Recommend 0WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - On Friday the bailout bill made it through the House of Representatives and was signed by President Bush. So how did Michigan representatives vote on the bill?
Congressman Pete Hoekstra changed his vote, he had voted 'no' on Monday, but voted 'yes' Friday. That means he joined with Representatives Fred Upton and Vern Ehlers who both voted yes to the bill for the second time.
In a statement released Friday, Hoekstra said he voted for the plan, but with reservation. He said it's an imperfect bill, and blamed Democrats for tacking on earmarks.
Representative Tim Walberg voted 'no' again on Friday. Newschannel 3 spoke with him Friday afternoon.
Walberg says it's good if the bailout package gives people a sense of security, but he said it can't stop there.
"Keep the heat of the fire under congress to wok on fundamental, foundational changes," Walberg said. "Make sure there is oversight, transparency, and capital gains to put more money into the market that we move back to our free enterprise, capitalistic system."
President Bush quickly signed the bill after it passed the house.
