Floodwaters continue to rise
WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - People across West Michigan are keeping a close eye on some local rivers Tuesday morning.
Many areas are already dealing with flood damage from this weekend and things could get worse if those rivers run over their banks.
In downtown Grand Rapids the Grand River continues to rise. That's the case across Kent, Ionia and Ottawa Counties where in some places the rivers aren't expected to crest until Thursday.
Folks across West Michigan are feeling the effects of all this extra water.
Lanphear Tool Works has been in their Lawrence building for close to 15 years. They've seen their fair share of Michigan storms, but until this weekend workers say they've been lucky.
Late Saturday night owner John Lanphear got a call saying five inches of water had crept up into their building, damaging just about every room including their engineering department.
LTW has been shut down ever since as workers try to clean up the damage. They hope to be back to work next week, but at this point it's still up in the air.
"It's hard to tell, it could be the rest of this week, we could be cleaning up and we don't know about mold because it got into the floors," said Lanphear.
It's double trouble for LTW, they make parts for GM and Ford.
