Two more companies announce layoffs
WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The economic downturn has forced another West Michigan plant to shut down, putting dozens of people out of work.
The first permanent cuts at Summit Polymers are expected Monday.
The company announced plans to shut down its Kilgore Road plant in Portage. That was in January. Summit Polymers says rising prices and decreased demand forced the decision.
More than 200 people work at the plant. It will permanently shut down sometime this month.
One of Battle Creeks largest employers announces its first layoffs in company history.
Duncan Aviation says new aircraft orders are down, as well as flight hours.
Because of that it's coming up with a plan to reduce staff. About 600 people work at the Battle Creek facility.
