Michigan's unemployment continues to rise
MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan's unemployment rate continues to climb. It is now nearing 13 percent.
More than 100 workers in Barry County can now add themselves to the growing number of unemployed.
Metaldyne is closing its plant in Middleville at the end of August. The company makes oil pumps and other parts for the auto industry and troubles at the Big 3 are trickling down.
It's a problem suppliers all across Michigan are facing.
Wednesday, state leaders freed up $12 million to help the companies diversify their business.
They can get loans up to $500,000 a piece to expand into new arenas.
State leaders say the money will probably go fast, so they're looking at additional funding resources.
