Doctor, convicted of fondling patients, now free and clear
Comments 0 | Recommend 0WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan doctor convicted of fondling his patients is now free and clear.
Dr. Terence Whiteman worked in Sturgis, in the ER at Sturgis Hospital. In 2008, Whiteman was convicted on criminal sexual conduct charges, as well as some drug charges.
Among the details that came out in court were several women who said that Whiteman groped them at the hospital on top of writing fake prescriptions for painkillers.
In 2009, a judge said that Whiteman deserved a new trial.
On Wednesday, the prosecutor in St. Joseph County said that he isn't going to move ahead with that trial because of errors from a number of people involved in the case, including the judge, attorneys on both sides, and even an investigator.
"It's frustrating, 'cause this was a high-profile case," said St. Joseph prosecutor John McDonough, "it did get a lot of publicity, and it was a case where I did feel a lot of compassion for these victims."
The prosecutor just didn't want to put witnesses through the whole ordeal of a trial once again.
