New job announcements for West Michigan
WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – New jobs are said to be headed to West Michigan.
A joint venture between GE and AVIC Systems of China will create 200 jobs in Grand Rapids.
Most of those jobs will be created by the end of 2010 and will be based at the GE – Avionics facility on Patterson Avenue SE. The plant will provide parts for the Comac C-919 passenger aircraft.
Meantime, Michigan's Economic Development Corporation, the MEGA board, has announced new tax credits that could help create almost 900 new jobs and over $790 million in new investment.
Those credits could also save jobs like the 350 that the board hopes will be retained at Steelcase in Grand Rapids. The office furniture maker will get a $4.7 million tax credit over the next eight years. The hope is that the credit will encourage the company to expand operations within the state.
Other credits were also announced for West Michigan. Consolidated Resource Imaging LLC in Walker will get $625,000 over seven years. The electronic and aerospace company hopes to create 50 new jobs.
Covance Laboratories in Battle Creek will also get a nearly three million dollar brownfield tax credit for a project creating 43 jobs.
