Report shows hunger skyrocketing across Michigan
MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A new report shows hunger sky-rocketing across Michigan.
According to the latest Hunger in America report, the Food Bank of South Central Michigan helps more than 102,000 people a year, nearly 35,000 of which are children.
In the households receiving assistance, 60 percent have unpaid medical bills. 61 percent are also receiving food stamps, though usually on a temporary basis.
44 percent of the families interviewed say they're stuck making the decision of paying their utility bills, or buying food.
